5 Fun Things To Do With The Kids in Coogee

Want to get the kids out and about for a bit of family fun in the sun?

With its beach, park and family-friendly restaurants, Coogee is a one-stop shop where you can keep your kids entertained (and maybe even tire them out a bit).

1. Build Sand Castles

Take your sand buckets and shovels down to Coogee Beach and let the kids’ imaginations run wild. Help them collect sticks, rocks and other treasures on the beach to decorate their creations.

Coogee Beach is beautifully maintained, so they shouldn’t pick up any nasties while on their search mission. Its golden sands and blue waters make for the perfect picture – so don’t forget to take a few snaps before the tide takes away their masterpiece.

2. Play In The Park

Right along the beach is a grassy area for the kids to run around in (Goldstein Reserve). While it has a stunning outlook over Coogee, it can sometimes get a little busy. So if you need a bit more room to throw that ball or frisbee around, walk to Grant Reserve at the south end of the beach.

Don’t worry if you didn’t bring any balls or toys – Grant Reserve has a playground the kids will love. There’s slippery slides, a climbing web, swings and more. It’s built over soft ground to maximise safety. You can relax by the picnic tables overlooking the sea, or get cooking on the nearby barbeque facilities. The park has toilet blocks too in case of any emergencies!

3. Food Break & Games at Coogee Pavilion

You’ve been in the sun, on the sand and in the park – chances are the kids are whining “I’m hungry!”. Coogee Pavilion (located at the north end of the beach) is the perfect place to stop and refuel. All their food is fantastic, however the highlight is the wood-fired pizza.

If the kids aren’t interested in watching the chef roll out the dough, there’s a playground paradise inside the restaurant. It features table tennis tables, a giant scrabble board with a ladder, a large fake lawn with blocks and dominoes, and colouring-in for those who are a little more artsy.

There’s plenty of tables and seating near this ‘fun zone’, so you can have a cheeky rosé or beer while the little devils run rampant.

4. Walk From Coogee to Bondi

Slip, slop, slap and take the kids on one of Sydney’s most epic walks from Coogee to Bondi It is about 6km, so if you don’t think you’ll make it all the way to Bondi – turn around at Bronte Beach. It’s a super easy route to follow and is easy to walk along the promenade. All you have to do is follow the coastline.

Our advice is to take your time, and cool off at one of the beautiful beaches on the way.

5. Indulge in a Burger From Milky Lane

If you’re still with us and you’ve made it back to Coogee, reward yourself with a delicious burger and shake from hotspot Milky Lane. Take advantage of their Kids Eat Half Price Nights on Thursday and Friday evenings. Watch your children’s faces light up when they order novelty milkshakes. Finish off your evening with a night stroll along the beach promenade, one last piece of magic before you’re ready to hit they hay.
